I know, I know. I'm a horrible at updating by blog. I've been trying to update it for a while, but couldn't log in. Then the light bulb went off and I realized I was typing in the wrong email address. Classic Caitlin move. I've slapped my own hand and I'll try to be less forgetful. If anyone has some spare Adderall laying around, it would be greatly appreciated.
Brayden is still in school 3 days a week and loves it. We had a meeting with his teacher and one of his therapists back in October and he's making great progress. He sits nicely during activities, seeks comfort if he's hurt or upset, is learning to communicate through picture cards, and is mimicking actions. I had tears in my eyes as they started singing a song and Brayden actually stopped what he was doing, sat in front of them and started doing the actions with them. They're still working on turn taking...apparently the boy in front of him on the slide wasn't going fast enough and Brayden tried biting him in the butt. Oops.
At home he's still pretty high maintenance and very energetic. He's lovingly been dubbed the "Tasmanian Devil", "Tornado Boy" and "Curious George". I don't think the kid even knows what walking is and running full speed into walls and furniture doesn't phase him a bit. Yet the smallest things can create a major meltdown. Whether his guy won't stand up, the monster truck won't fit into the boat, or the closet or cupboard door won't shut all the way, it's the end of the world. His little quirks can be kind of cute too. He'll only drink from a specific type of cup, he MUST have a bath every time he gets out of his highchair, all doors need to be closed, and trucks, blocks and people need to be lined up just so. If you move one, be prepared for a dirty look, followed by a disapproving screech as he fixes it.
He loves coloring (both on paper and himself), shouting out letters while watching "Wheel of Fortune", pointing to things for us to count over and over, playing bowling and paper toss on Paige's iPod touch, and rough housing with Joe. He's also a great helper. He'll throw things in the trash for us, put dishes in the sink, dirty clothes in the laundry, and helps push the vacuum back in the closet.
He's great at napping. We both usually get at least a 2 hour nap. Bedtime, not so much. A full night of sleep is few and far between. Melatonin worked like a charm the first 2 nights we tried it and now it has the opposite effect, as does the lavender rub we tried last night. He's the only kid I know that gets completely wired from so-called 'calming' agents. He's learned how to climb out of his pack n play and usually winds up in bed with us. It can be exhausting, but kids grow too fast so I'll take all the snuggles I can get.
